Making Color Box
My Design Process
Topic:
Color How does Color Affect Product Perception |
Part One: Brainstorm
From my topic, me and a group came up with idea of things I could make and try. The goal was to reach around 70 things for each question so I can fully explore the possibilities of my research.
I had tons of small ideas since color is such a wide topic to explore. A color subscription box seemed to be the best way to fully explore all the pieces of each color. With this I can also build a logo and brand guidelines going forward.
Part Two: Prototyping
For the subscription box, I stuck with the ultimate goal of teaching subscribers about how to implement color therapy/psychology. As read in the Research tab, color can be a useful tool in everyday life. This subscription. box fully explores each color, with a new color every month. I wanted something subscribers could decorate their house with, wear, share with others, color, and learn about how to use and see the color in daily life.
The Zine Guide to Red
At first I was not sure what exactly I was going to do for my guidebook into red. I liked the idea of a zine, but wasn't sure where or how to incorporate the information. I was able to find an indesign template that I barely used, but helped push me into a direction I wanted to go with my Zine Guide.

Decorate
Figuring how to incorporate color into the home was the hardest part of my process. I ultimately wanted to paint the rooms of someones house, but realize that's not realistic. Due to this, I explored lights, fabrics, posters and other household decor. Making the sign was difficult, I had glue issues, ripping canvases, but I loved the way EL Wire LED lights looked and kept exploring different ways to present the lights. Finally I wrapped them around an embroidery hoop, and loved it.

WearI wanted to make a cute accessory for users to incorporate each months color into their wardrobe. At first I loved the idea of doing clay earrings, but realized the limitations of doing so. Not everyone wears earrings, but everyone can use a keychain! I'm not sure if I would give both or have a questionnaire for buyers to choose, but having both allows for inclusivity!
ShareI used a cardboard circle with lines cut into it - therefore being able to quickly and easily make the friendship bracelets. I thought this would be fin for subscribers to be able to share what they have learned about red with friends and family.

ColorThe coloring book was another part I was having a hard time with. I kept going back and forth on the types of designs I wanted to include... then I remembered its a book and can include it all. After that I could not decide which ones to get rid of! I think this is a part that I want to revisit and change in the future, but like the concept of creating pages that connect to the color itself, as well as sheets that are more calming.
